Harley-Davidson PRE-WAR 1938 MODEL “G” SERVI-CAR Picture and Description:
What we have for auction here is a 1938 Harley Davidson Service-Car. The motor has been put in running order but has not been run. The same goes for the transmision, all it needs is oil. I was restoring this trike to be period correct (ish). Meaning that I wasn't after a 100 point restoration but wanted to keep it "original" appearing while making it more durable and reliable. In other words, I didn't want to put Cragers and a king/queen on it with a 20" over girder riding up front. For instance, the wheels were rebuilt and laced with stainless steel Buchanon spokes instead of cadium plate. The parts that were originally painted have been blasted with walnut shells and powdercoated black. I have taken pictures of all the parts that I have for this trike. If you don't see it...I don't have it. Many of the parts on this bike are "dash-teen" meaning that they were originaly used on bikes dating from the 19-teens. This makes them even harder to come by than parts for the later models. Luckily I have almost all of these parts as this trike has been in a barn from 1957 until I got it about ten years ago. Fortunately it has made it through the 60's and 70's without being molested. All the tabs and mounts are still there and there is no bondo molding to be found anywhere. If you are an afficionado of the Servi-car you know that it is extremely important to have (as this one does) the proper (matching) frame, trans, and rear axle as there were many changes over the years. Just being a pre-war example makes this trike special too. It's amazing that it made it through the war effort and past the scrap yard's melting pot and the 60's and 70's. A true survivor. It is hard to tell from the pictures but this trike has the small box on the back instead of the large one used on almost all of the servi-cars. It only makes sense to get the larger storage box on your utility trike right ? Well maybe the original owner wanted it to look cool as well as be utilitarian because this small box with the spacers between it and the fenders looks way cool. I don't know how much I have already put into this project and I'm probably better off not knowing. I hate to see it go but I just have too many other irons in the fire. Make my loss your gain, own an especially rare piece of pre-war American History. All parts that are blue in the pictures are painted not powdercoated. All items shown wrapped in plastic are straight from the powdercoaters and have yet to be unwrapped. I am far from an expert on these old Harleys but will try to answer any questions you may have or find someone that can. I encourage anyone who is local to come by and see it for themselves. Accepted payment methods will be; Cashiers Check, USPS Money Order, Personal Check (check must clear before the trike leaves my garage) or good old fashioned cash money. The latter being prefered. Accepted pick up and or delivery methods; Pick up at my place is prefered but if you send a truck or van I will help load it in but will not be held responsible for any damage resulting from the transport in any way shape or form.
